Today, Vierstra’s Horse Drawn Carriages is led by Lisa and her daughter, McKenna Vierstra, who reestablished the business in their home state of Kentucky. Alongside their work at Mammoth Cave National Park and managing a cow/calf operation, they continue a family tradition rooted in quality, care, and professionalism.

McKenna is currently training a new team of Belgian Draft horse yearlings, carrying forward a tradition inspired by her grandparents and guided by her mother. Their shared passion for horses and the land is reflected in every detail of the experience they provide.

That tradition began in 1977, when Jack and Midge Harmon founded Harmon’s Hayrides and Carriages in Northern Virginia. What started as a small family operation grew into a respected carriage business, expanding into horse training and serving weddings and events throughout the region.

The business was later carried on by their son, Scott Harmon, and his family, continuing to provide carriage services across Northern Virginia and the Washington, DC area for decades.

Rooted in nearly 50 years of experience, the approach remains the same today: well-trained horses, close attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, professional carriage services for every event.
